Take the poll. How is your community tackling housing affordability?
The Our State, Our Homes program, part of the broader Carolina Across 100 (CX100) initiative at UNC-Chapel Hill, supports North Carolina communities by helping them develop and implement strategies to improvethe supply of housing affordable to residents.
Our State, Our Homes required the 13 community teams to include diverse stakeholders, such as local government, nonprofits, community colleges, businesses, and other community leaders, to ensure comprehensive solutions.
The community teams received the following supports:
Direct Local Support & Resources
- Technical Assistance & Expertise: Community teams received free expert guidance on housing needs assessments, pre-development feasibility, and identifying sites for affordable housing.
- Funding Opportunities: Community teams received a stipend for a local project manager and an implementation award to fund a small pilot project.
- Skill & Capacity Building: Community teams engaged in in-person forums, webinars, and coaching to help them analyze local housing challenges and build
- Peer Learning Networks: Local leaders connected with teams from other counties to share practical lessons and successful strategies.

Next Steps
The intensive phase of the program has ended, but Carolina Across 100 will continue to work with communities throughout the year to ensure progress on their respective action plans. Here is what teams plan to accomplish.
Carolina Across 100 is a five-year initiative whose goal is to aid community-driven recovery and build sustainable efforts in all 100 counties by providing human resources, data insights, coaching, facilitation, coordination efforts, and program design.
